Louise's Tap dancing
I went to Invercargill yesterday for my third tap competitions. I did four dances all day and I got a highly commended ribbon in each one. I started with my solo dance to 'Aint she sweet'. My song & dance was 'spoon full of sugar' out of Mary Poppins. I had good fun singing and dancing on stage. I used a pram and a doll for my props. I did an impromptu dance to a song from Camp Rock by the Jonas Brothers so that was cool. My last dance was for a Champion Trophy and sash. Because I have won a section before I could enter the championship. I was very excited when I won that one. There was lots of beautiful costumes and some really good dancers. I made a new friend called Bree. She was dressed like a bumble bee. I am at home this morning because I am very tired and had a sleep in. We got home very late last night.

Swimming Lessons
On Wednesday Courtney & Alicia went to swimming club to learn how to swim.
We learnt how to do schooling, push off from the wall (streamlining). The pool was nice and cold, the rain was coming down really hard onto the roof. We saw some friends from school. We are having a great time learning to increase our skills for swimming.

Floating and Sinking
This term we went to the Water Park to test our boats to see if they would float or sink.
We made our boats out of natural materials that were environmentally friendly. Some of the materials we used were sticks, leaves, feathers, pinecones and bark.
It was great fun because we all got to watch our boats float through pipe and most of them broke when they went down the waterfall.
We had a fantastic time spotting things were floating on Lake Te Anau on the way back to school.

Alaska photos from Keren's Dad
Here are some photos from Alaska where we are catching Polar Bears, today we caught three (a mother bear with two very big cubs) It is very cold & the sea is just starting to freeze & all the lakes are already frozen. We have seen plenty of polar bears, grizzly bears, caribou, musk ox & arctic fox's. These three bears caught today on a little windswept island
Waves from the sea slowly freezing.
One of Keren's Arctic fox's.
Following polar bear tracks, we followed these for about 40 km until we caught up with the bear.
Another two polar bears captured on a small island, the white shelter is so the biologists can work with the bears in the cold wind.
A mother & cub captured near Deadhorse, Alaska.

Firestation Visit
When we got to the Fire Station we say three fire engines. Two of the trucks were leaving to take Room 2 back to school. We liked the new Fire Engine the best. Then we went into the lounge and Courtney tried on a Fire Suit and Taylor tried on a mask, but not the tank because she would have fallen over! We listened to Firefighter Ian and he told us about dangerous things in fires and how to keep safe. Then Justin told us some more information and he showed us how quickly he could get into his Fireman suit. He crawled around us wearing his mask and tank so we could hear what he sounded like.It was really fun playing with the hoses because Mrs Hansen got soaked! After the visit we all got a ride back to school in the Fire Engines.

Almost Home
Hi everyone
Really enjoyed the blog and the stories there. We are flying home tonight at 10.15pm UK time so while you are all at school and then in bed we will be flying home. It will take us 27 hours to get to Christchurch.
We have had a great holiday. We went to London for the day on Friday - it was lots of fun. We went on the London eye, went to harrods and the Natural History Museum. We saw the dinosaurs there. We were going to go to the Science Museum but we ran out of time.
We have been at my Aunty Annette's this weekend and I have seen my cousins and it has been very hot.
See you on the 31st August!

Louise likes Ski-ing
In the holidays I went ski-ing up at Coronet Peak. I went on the chairlift and it was cool. I had a ski lesson in the morning and my mum and dad skied with me all afternoon. I lost my pole on the chairlift but I got it back from a boy who found it. He was on the chair lift behind me and dad.
The snow was soft and cold because when I fell over sometimes it went up my back. It was a nice sunny day up there. We drove through cloud on the way up because it was cloudy in Queenstown. The top of the mountain was sunny.
We saw Fergus from room 1 and his family there.
There was lunch included in my ski lesson and lots of kids in the restaurant.
Me and mum had a hot chocolate at the end of the day. It was yum! We went back to Nan and Grumps house and I slept very well after my big day out.

Hi from Emily
I am visiting family and friends on the North Island. We have done lots of fun things.
-On the way up on the plane we did some really tricky maths.
-One day we went to the Cirque du Soleil birthday party. There I was invited up on the stage to do some hoolahooping. We got given helium balloons.
-When we got home my friend Stella and I got our faces painted.
-We also spent some time on Kawau Island with my cousin Kane, his mum and dad, as well as my grandparents.
-Some days we spent our time doing lots of shopping for clothes and shoes.
-Me and mummy also went to the Cirque du Soleil one evening and I went to bed almost at midnight. The Circus was fantastic.
-On rainy days I spend some time doing lots of paintings. I am making a book where all the paintings are attached.
-We are also visiting many new places arround here, like caves, beaches and play grounds.
Now I better go because we are off to go back to Kawau Island. So bye bye, see you at school soon.
Emily :-)

Look who came to visit
Hi Everyone. Hope you are all having a great holiday. We have all had bugs over the holidays so far, but we seem to have improved now. Flynn came for a visit on Friday and ended up staying for the afternoon and having tea with us. He is really happy in his new house and new school and is doing really well. There are less pupils in the classes in the new school than in Te Anau School. Eden's room only has 11 children in it and 2 teachers!!
There should be two photos attached to this blog of William and Flynn together. They had lots and lots of fun and got REALLY DIRTY in the back garden where the digger had been. I hope I manage to get the pictures on all right - I haven't done this before.
Enjoy the rest of your holidays. We are not doing much until Friday and then we are going to Gore for the day to hopefully go ice skating and swimming and then we are going through to Queenstown on Saturday to go skiing. Hopefully we will get to school on Monday in one piece.
Bye for now. Sandra Soper (William's mum)

Speech Presentations
Today we presented our speeches.
We had lot of different topics... dinosaurs, spiders, thunder and lightning, our pets, butterflies, motorhomes, Ben 10, music and annoying BIG sisters! (Just to name a few).
Mrs Hansen was soooo impressed with the way we presented our speeches in front of our class, and all the parents that came and listened too. It was scary for some of us, but we gave it a go and tried our best. We were very good at using our cue cards and some of us even added some awesome actions!
Thanks to our audience- you were great!

MAKING SCARECROWS
Problem: Birds were eating our vegetables and seeds in our garden
Solution: To make our own Bird Scaring devices.
We all designed our own Bird Scaring device and then choose one design to make in our buzz groups. 5 buzz groups made Scarecrows and 1 buzz group made bird feeders to fill the birds' tummies.
We still haven't finished them quite yet, but we are working on them. Here are some photos to show what we have done so far.
COMMUNITY HELPERS/ ENVIRONMENTALISTS
We have been learning about how to volunteer in our community to help look after our Environment and even volunteered ourselves!
WEEDBUSTING AT MANAPOURI
Room 4 went and helped to 'Weedbust' Broom and Cotoneaster at Manapouri. We pulled and pulled with all our might and made a humongous pile of weeds!
COMMUNITY GARDEN
Te Anau has a new Community Garden and we visited it. We listened as Annie Roska told us about all the different ways people can volunteer at the Community Garden. Then we volunteered too! Guess how we helped!
